Where Are The Children?

Recently, I was thinking about a song I had heard on the radio. A picture came to mind of a man and woman who had gone to heaven at or near the end of the age. They were excited, thrilled, full of joy. Friends and family showed up to greet them and a celebration began. Could be going on for years. Since there is no time in heaven, there was no way to mark the length of the party. At some point, the man notices something strange. All of the celebrants are adults. Where are the children?

He went to his wife asking that very question. She was unable to answer after she, too, noticed that there were no children at the party. They talked with a number of friends and family but no one knew the answer to the question. In fact, the man and woman were the first to wonder about such a thing.

They went off in search of the answer to the now consuming question; where are the children? As they traveled from place to place, children were evident but none were related to them. Heading toward the City of Light, the pair encountered an angel. The angel responded that they would have to talk to the Master about this subject.

On the woman and man went into the City to the throne of God, where Jesus was teaching some small children. As they approached Him, He smiled at the man and woman and greeted them with a blessing. However, He could see that they were wanting to know something, and while He already knew what they wanted, waited to hear the question.

"Master, why do we not see our children here? What has happened to them? Where are the children?"

He slowly stood up, looking sadly at them, and replied, "You did not train them up in the way that they should go, as the Word said. You did not raise them up in the admonition of the Lord, as you were instructed. They are not here."

Jesus wept.
