I recall a story I read some years back about a certain King in an Asian country who threw a wedding party for his son. The party was indeed a big one attracting thousands of people from within and beyond the shore of the land, and all residents were asked to bring a bottle of wine each. Everyone was required to empty his or her bottle of wine into a waiting tank few days before the wedding day so as to store enough wine for the guests expected at the party. The tank was to be opened on the wedding day.
The day finally came and the tank was opened to draw wine for thousands of guests present at the wedding. The king was terribly shocked however when the contents of the tank turned out to be water only! What happened? Each and every one of the residents, rather than a bottle of wine as instructed, emptied a bottle of water into the tank, each without the knowledge of the action of the other. Everyone had thought that only one bottle of water emptied into the tank by him or her would never make any significant difference since several other hundreds of thousand residents would still pour their wine into the tank! Surprisingly, that was the thought of everyone; everyone ended up pouring a bottle of water into the tank!
A lot of things are going wrong in our world because the conclusion of most of us is that, we as individuals can hardly make any difference or change anything. This mindset has affected us so much that we would readily align ourselves with the ways and ideas of this world rather than stand out and make a difference in righteousness. It seems that majority have adopted the world’s maxim: ‘If you can’t beat them, join them’! It is to the credit of evil and unrighteousness, when believers think that their stand or contribution is too little to make a difference. This explains the reason why darkness is sweeping over our nations like wild fire!
It does not take majority to start a revolution! Every significant move of God throughout all ages did not begin with or involve large number of people, but with only one man at a time! Remember, it was only Noah in his generation! In Egypt, it was only Joseph’s wisdom that rescued the entire nations of the earth and humanity from extinction that would have resulted from the great famine that ravished the then world! In the wilderness, it was only Joshua and Caleb that saw victory while others saw giants and defeat. In the land of Babylon, it was only Shadrach, Mesach and Abednego’ s dogged commitment to God of Israel that eventually melted and compelled that cruel Emperor- Nebuchadnezzar to issue a proclamation that all nations should worship no other but the God of Israel! In the wilderness beyond Jordan, it was only John the Baptist’s voice alone that stood out and attracted men to righteousness. In the early church, it was only one hundred and twenty spirit-filled disciples that turned the whole world up-side-down! In the city of Samaria, it was only Philip’s message that brought overflowing joy to the whole city! In the wake of 20th century, it was through few men from Azusa Street that great revival broke and spread to the whole world!
It is the devil’s lie that only you cannot make a difference. Believers have kept silence for long, confined within a boundary God did not put around them. Our apathy and indifference is now causing us untold pain and grief all over the world, as darkness takes over the land with great speed under our very nose! How do we explain the popularity that homosexuality, nudity and lesbianism presently enjoy in our society to the extent that gays are now being ordained as clerics! What explanation do we have for the struggle we now have with the parliaments with regards to passing laws that protect gays and lesbian? Unless we all stand up for God now and shine as light in our generation, worse things may still unfold - God forbid!
With very great speed, the world is becoming inhabitable for Christians, not because God’s power is not available to arrest evil or defend righteousness, but because believers, on whom the Lord depends to make a difference in their generation, have been all caught in the webs of indifference and apathy. In one way or the other, we have all contributed to the seeming triumph of evil in our society. Unless we do something fast, worse things may still unfold - God forbid. We must wake up from our sleep and use everything in our disposal to make that difference.
In every one of us is a voice waiting to be heard; in each of us is a light longing to shine forth. Our voice may be faint but we still must speak; our light may be little but that is all we need! It takes just a little light to expel darkness in our surrounding. If each of us will shine in our little corner, the whole world would be full of light. We cannot afford to fail God this time around! The time to rise is NOW!
I am not in any way trying to cast aspersions on our brethren from the US and Europe where struggle with homosexuality, lesbianism and sodomy seems to be more, given the society’s crusade for liberalism and the so called ‘Human Right’, the sweep of evil is a problem troubling the whole nations of the earth. All of us must rise up today and speak for the Lord, even if it means at the expense of our lives! We cannot afford to fail God and His will for our world. God had never at any time forsaken those who stood and spoke for Him throughout the ages. The power of darkness through agencies of government and parliaments may attempt to stop us but we must resist by all means and through all ways.
The surest way to promote evil is for the saints to keep low and keep silent! Our voice must be heard all over the world, not through violence or human struggle as it were, but through the spread of the truth in all forms, in season and out of seasons – whether opportunities present themselves or not! We should not hesitate to control the affairs of our world with prayers, at least while we are here. Each of us can make a great difference and so we must. Be part of the end time army that God will use to upturn the tables of the powers of darkness and unrighteousness all over the world. ONLY YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
