Self-will is spiritual gravity.
Man's trapped inside his own lust and depravity.
The world has crashed the party in his soul,
he's danced with it and never bade it go.
We listen to ourselves and not the call.
We lift ourselves so far but always
f
a
l
l.
There's none to blame but self for never choosing
the only way to live life never loosing-
He's the Christ
the Truth
the Way
the Promised One
the Sinless sacrificed
God's only Son.
The mirror on the wall can be deceiving,
we idolize then find our spirits grieving.
We serve self then pity its demise.
we point accusing fingers
believing age-old lies.
Our bodies ache with wrath, our minds with fear-
the gods we've loved have died
and left us here.
Inside a ravaged frame with pride alone,
we're an echo in a black hole
with no way home.
Until mercy shows us at the end of self
hope
radical,
unmerited and free.
Grace, like a new day,
fresh, forgiving air to breath.
Truth that lifts you high.
The Son who gives you rest.
The sole One with authority
over
life and
over
death.
Empty out and lay self prostrate at His feet.
Your famished heart can't hold the love He'll give.
On the outside of God's grace and soul salvation
there's nowhere left that man
was meant to live.

Excellent poem and message Donna. I loved the way you presented it as well. Very, very good. There were a couple of tiny spelling and grammatical typos, but nothing major. The only reason I am pointing them out is because you asked for a critique, your poem is for sale and in my opinion, is worth taking the time to fix (They really are very small things) "Sinnless" should be "sinless"; "decieving" should be "deceiving"; "it's" should be "its" (in the line where it says "We serve self then pity it's demise." It is one of the few words that you don't use an apostrophe for possession); "bodys" should be "bodies"; "unmerrited" should be "unmerited". I don't normally go into spelling police mode ;-) but I really think your poem is worth it. With love, Deb
