For ye have need of patience, that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Hebrew 10:36-38;

The story was told of a man who in desperate search of water in a desert land, set out to dig a well. For several weeks he dug tirelessly with very high expectation of touching water. After few months of rigorous digging however, his expectation began to dampen as he suddenly came to a conclusion that the water table was too far to be reached. Consequently, he gave up the idea of digging and began to travel the vast desert land in search of oasis and possible collection of water as alternative.

No sooner than the man left than a fairly old man came to the spot. For many days, he had also embarked on a frantic search of water to revive his weary soul. Sighting the empty well from afar, he approached with eagerness and brightened face. The sight of the well, empty though, brought sunshine to his weary soul as he hurriedly climbed down with his heavy hands and feeble feet. His high hope of getting water from the well seemed to have injected strength into his failing limbs as he placed his hands on the diggers abandoned by the man who left a little while ago. With all of the remaining strength in him coupled with great determination, he began to dig the well.

To his greatest surprise, pure, crystal clear water gushed at his face just at the first hit! He got the breakthrough on a platter of gold! He got the glory; he reaped the fruits of the labour of another man who could not persevere. The previous man that gave up digging of the well for vain search of collection of water on the vast desert land, needed just one more hit to touch water. He however quitted when he was very close to his breakthrough. What a pity!

It is sad that so many people like the man who started digging the well initially, gave up when they were few meters close to their breakthroughs in life. Their failure to stick on in the face of challenges and hardships had robbed them of great success that would have come their ways; their unwillingness to stand against the odds have stripped them of the glory that would have been revealed in them. They failed to realize that most times it is the last key in the bunch that opens the door!

We are admonished by the scriptures not to give up believing God and staying on till the very end. It is not enough to be diligent in doing the will of God, we need a great deal of patience and perseverance to get the glorious promises of God actualized in our lives. God’s promises are ever sure and unfailing, but they may be far from the reach of any one who is not ready to stick on till the finishing lines. No problem in life is everlasting; all our troubles and pains have expiry dates but those who quit too soon will not discover this.

The scriptures reveal that if anyone draws back, God has no delight in such person. God never promised us a storm-free adventures but rather, a safe sail through storms. If you must make a U Turn each time you run into road blocks in journeys of life, you will soon discover that no road leads to your desired destination. Oftentimes, the roads that lead to success are the roughest and the longest! No matter how fierce the challenges on our ways may be, the strength of God is ever available for us to stand.

None of the weapons of our warfare is meant to cover our backs; no provision was made for our backs because God does not expect us to turn our backs in any battle! We are offspring of the Lion of the tribe of Judah and a lion does not turn away from anyone! Dear brothers and sisters don’t give up. Your weeping will soon turn to rejoicing; your pain will soon culminate in great gains; your scars will soon turn to stars; your story will soon turn to glory! No matter how effective or powerful a drug is, it is never meant to be powerful for ever; the expiry date is already determined! Each day that passes reduces its relevance and efficacy! ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS AND TROUBLES HAVE EXPIRY DATES! They are not everlasting. They will soon turn to told stories! Someone once said “let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you; all things will come to an end except God, only God is everlasting”! Cheer up friends. You are closer to your breakthroughs than you realize! Please never, ever give up!
