The Word of the Lord came to him.....
Look toward Heaven,
and number the stars,
if you are able to number them.
....so shall your descendents be....
[Genesis 15:4-6]
*****************************************
It is a cool desert night, and Abraham
is sitting outside, looking up at the stars.
Suddenly, he feels the stirring of a
warm breeze over his head.

"It is a fine night, Lord God!"

"Yes. I made it so, Abraham."

"Years ago, You told me to look up
at Your stars and count them."

"I know. And, have you?"

"I've tried, Lord. But, it's
very difficult."

[NOD.]

"Plus, my servants think I'm a
little crazy."

"So be it, Abraham.
I am your Lord."

(Shrug. Nod.)
"Tell me about my great-
grandchildren, Lord.
What will they be like?"

"You can't sleep again,
Abraham? Alright.
I will tell you about one of
them."

"Wait a second, Lord."

(Minutes pass.)
"Okay, Lord. I'm back."

"Are you comfortable?
Didn't I tell you not to
eat that spicy meat?
[NOD.]
Alright.
See that one very small star,
far off, to the west?"

"Eh, sort of, Lord.
You know, my eyes aren't
what they used to be."

[NOD.]
"Well, that star is one of
your great-great granddaughters."

"Ah, yes! But, it's very far
west, Lord! Won't my
beloved granddaughter live
in this desert?"

"No, Abraham.
It will be warm, like your
desert home, but far - very far away."

"And, of course, she is very
beautiful, Lord!"

"Not really."

"No? Well, at least, I
know that You have blessed
her with many children and
camels!"

"No, Abraham: only small lions."

"Lions? I don't understand, Lord?"

"Cats, Abraham: those small, rat-
eating lions, you have seen, scurrying
about Egypt."

"Tch! What use are they?
What does she do with them,
Lord: eat them?"

"Feeds them."

"What? Tch! This is no
granddaughter of mine, Lord!
You must be mistaken!"

[RUMBLE.]

"Sorry, Lord. Go on;
I want to hear more.
So, tell me,
does she flourish in the
land of milk and honey?"

"No: in the land of rattlesnakes,
and very large ants. It is a
land of the Alamo."

"The land of the what did
You say, Lord?"

"It's a long story, Abraham.
Don't worry about it."

"It sounds terrible!
How could I have begotten
a miserable grandchild
such as this, Lord?"

"Eh, she's not that miserable,
Abraham. She does have Me."

"Well, that is a relief, Lord.
I am glad that, in all of her
wretchedness - and small
lions of the desert -
that she knows You."

"She does complain a lot,
Abraham. But, I am
used to that, with all of
my children."

"I'm sorry, Lord. Tch;
I don't think I will ever
look at that star to the
far west, again!
I'm so ashamed!"

"It is not all bad news,
Abraham: this granddaughter
of yours does talk to Me."

"In Hebrew, Lord?"

"No, although she knows
some, Abraham:
enough to say the She-mah."

"What sort of granddaughter is
this? I am so lamentful!
I can't hear any more of this,
Lord! Please! I'm going inside
my tent! I can't take any more
of this, Lord!"

"Abraham, calm down.
You will give yourself indigestion.
It is alright; she does have
one thing from her great-
great-grandfather,
Abraham. And, she
brings it to Me, all the time."

"What is that, Lord?
What could that possibly be?"

[SMILE.]
"Her sense of humor, Abraham.
Her sense of humor."
*****************************************
The Lord said to Abraham,
Why did Sara laugh........
is anything too hard for the Lord?
[Genesis 18:13-14]
