The sports agent waited, hat in his hand
Near the plush inner office of Alex McBrand
Fresh from assignment (well after three beers)
Of assessing sports stars over two thousand years.
The idea was one of the best he had seen
Made easy with Alex's new time machine
He flitted from Athens, to Tokyo and back
Filling a notebook with his chicken scratch
But now when it came to name the athlete
The agent was getting a case of cold feet
Who would have imagined, who'd have surmised
The winner would turn out to be Jesus Christ?
But look at the record, he thought as he waited
The athletic achievements that Christ demonstrated
While Michael Jordan had leaps of renown
When Jesus went up, he NEVER came down
In tennis, is any more deft with a volley
Than Jesus deflecting a Pharasee folly?
We've all seen good guards handling balls from the stands
But has anyone ever had Jesus' great hands?
In volleyball, athletes show great skill and nerve
But it took Jesus Christ to define the word "serve."
While sportsmen win trophies for landing marlin
Our Savior was the very first fisher of men!
Water skiers do many tricks while afloat
But Jesus trod water -- without skis or boat.
And while all other atletes have faded away
The memory of Jesus has power today.
The agent looked up as McBrand strutted in
And feeling much better, he picked up his pen
Preparing to make his case for Christ stick
There really was no one else he could pick
A man of such power, such glory and grace
A man who taught others to win their own race
Yet laying aside all this speculative talk
The one thing to copy -- would be Jesus' walk
