"Whosoever is born of God overcomes the world and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.
Who is he that overcomes the world but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" (I John 5:4-5)
"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
(I Corinthians 15:57)
By now, your know that my favorite subject is Faith...
or better still, the object of my Faith, Jesus!
No matter what comes, we can gain the victory by Faith in the Good Lord.
The last 2 months have tested my Faith.
The allergic reaction to sulfa knocked my whole body's system for 'a loop'.
I've had trouble sleeping and I struggled each night, looking at the clock.
One night God told me, "Look to Me, Travis...not the clock!"
That's good advice anytime, but especially at 78 yrs. of age.
During this time, I felt led to re-read one of Corrie ten Boom's books,
"He Cares, He Comforts".
In the first chapter, she has a poem entitled 'Jesus Heard You'.
Our adopted daughter Shirley framed this poem for La Moyne
(whom Shirley calls 'La Mom') many years ago when La Moyne was having a Lupus flare.
'La Mom' has kept it next to her chair ever since!
"Jesus heard you when you prayed last night.
He talked with God about you.
Jesus was there when you fought your fight,
He is going to bring you through.
Jesus knew when you shed those tears,
You did not weep alone.
The burdens you thought too heavy to bear,
He made them His very own.
Jesus Himself was touched by that trial,
You could not understand.
Jesus stood by as you almost fell
And lovingly clasped your hand.
Jesus cared when you bore that pain,
Indeed, He bore it too.
He felt each pain, each ache in your heart,
Because of His love for you.
Jesus your Savior, will always be with you,
No need to be anxious or fret.
Wonder love, He will be there all the time,
He has never forsaken you yet."
Corrie's Dad and her sister, Betsy, died in a Nazi concentration camp.
"I looked death in the eyes myself, several times.
When fear came into my heart, I told the Lord Jesus....
'He did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.'
(II Tim. 1:7)
I knew that I did not pass through the shadow of death alone, Jesus was with me!
He also helped me to forgive....with His love, which was stronger than my hatred and bitterness."
When stripped naked and all possessions were taken from her, she said to Betsy:
'I can not bear this! This is worse than all other cruelties that we've had to endure.'
Suddenly, it was as if I saw Jesus on the Cross and I remembered that it says in the Bible 'They took His garments'. Jesus hung there naked.
By my own suffering, I understood a fraction of Jesus' suffering and that gave me strength. Now I could bear my own suffering, realizing that He did that for me.
My suffering is only a fraction of what he suffered."
Corrie also has another good book with a catchy title (that could be my motto)
"Don't Wrestle, Just Nestle".
This, I am trying to do....and once again experience that 'Faith is the Victory'.....
for truly the answer to fear IS Faith!
Some may say that that is too simplistic of an answer and it won't work.
They need to try it first and make sure that the object of real Faith....
is in the REAL person - Jesus.
There are so many new things a person can buy today!
Sometimes they may forget about Faith in the old, old story of John 3:16.
You don't forget it.....you FAITH Him and He is sufficient for every need that we have.
One of our favorite singers, Jack Holcomb, sang this beautiful song:
"I do not know the depths of Jesus' Love
that brought Him down from Heaven above.
Nor why He bore the Cross up Calvary...
and shed His precious blood so willingly.
But this one thing I know,
that when that Crimson Flow dropped to the earth below,
It fell on me.
My eyes were opened wide,
I saw Him crucified and knew for me He died...on Calvary."
Jesus as the object of your Faith is:
1) Solid as a rock for foundation (Matt.7:21-27)
2) A refuge in the storms of life (Ps. 46)
3) A refreshing river that never runs dry (Ps. 46)
The key to these is Psalms 46:10: "Be still and know that I am God".
Gene Bartlett was Dir. of Music for the Baptist Convention of Oklahoma many years ago and was also the Worship Leader for Falls Creek Baptist Assembly here in Oklahoma.
He and his father (E.M. Bartlett) wrote many songs that are still sung around the world.
One song written by his Dad, 'Victory in Jesus', is a favorite of many people.
'I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.
I heard about His healing,
Of His cleansing pow'r revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, "Dear Jesus,
Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't
To me the victory.
I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing,
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory.
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood."
Words and Music by E.M. Bartlett (1939)
In Gene's latter years, he had Parkinson's disease. One time when La Moyne was having a bad Lupus flare, Gene came to visit us and shared 2 new songs that he had written.
The one he wanted to sing for La Moyne was entitled 'Don't You Quit'.
Gene is in Heaven now, but his works DO follow him.
I pray that this paper will help you to have 'Victory in Jesus'.....
and the only way to have this Victory, is to have Faith....for truly Faith is The Victory!

If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
AMEN Travis, FAITH is THE VICTORY. My husband just received some very bad news concerning his heart, but his heart does not belong to the doctors it belongs to God. The Bible says: And this IS the VICTORY that has overcome the world--OUR FAITH. I am trusting God to bring him through this and make him a witness. Thank you SO much for this divinely inspired article. I love you both, Sharon
