"Til you've been crushed down in the depths of despair,
Do not tell me you know what I'm going through.
The agony of losing a child is beyond compare;
Thanks, my friend; just hug me; say a prayer for me, too.
The fated call in the night; a parents' worst fear;
Words that chronicle that very moment in time.
A child has been taken; no other treasure so dear;
You've entered "THE VALLEY," out of which you cannot climb.
No preparation; no waiting on tomorrow,
Will alter the passage through which you must go.
Your heart is broken; such unspeakable sorrow;
I t doesn't seem right; we ask why; someday I hope we'll know.
I remember the world didn't come to a close that night,
That realization was unforgivable to me.
My world was shattered; I fought with all my might,
To rewind that nightmare, oh, God, please.
The services are over; you're alone; what now;
Your heart is empty; wounded beyond repair.
You have to find your own way; I can't tell you how.
This loss forever we must bear.
We can't comprehend that death is so final;
You've hardly begun to wait;
By the window, by the door, it's called denial,
As much as we try, we can't undo what's been done; it's too late.
Perhaps I wasn't with you; you thought I didn't care,
Dear friend, I'm aware of your heavy burden;
I'm lifting you up in prayer.
Heartaches are real; oh, how it hurts to love.
Remember, angels have been assigned from above;
They're just a whisper away; from you they'll ne'er depart.

Dottie, I couldn't even begin to imagine what it must be like to lose a precious child. In my worst nightmares I get a glimpse, but to live through it would be almost unbearable. Your poem truly expressed the anguish so clearly and also, just how loved ones and friends will best be able to support. Thank you. With love, Deb
