A Fathers Love
Another near zero February morning here in Ohio. I was running a little late and rushed out to start my frost covered car. I sat in my car as it warmed up and listened to the morning news on the radio. The top story was of course the frigid weather we were experiencing and how some schools had gone on a two hour delay because the mercury had dipped below zero by seven degrees and the wind chill was around thirty below. I shivered in my car as the newscaster continued her report and she was having trouble speaking as she reported that a man was being charged with his twenty-three month old daughter’s death. It seemed that the little girl wouldn’t go to sleep and her father wrapped her in a blanket and took her to the woods and left her for the night. She froze to death. As I pulled out of my drive I thought of my own daughter snug in her bed. How could a father do that? Just leave her behind for dead. The sun was just starting to rise; the sky was a very light blue with a beautiful orange horizon. God, I thought, WHY? How could anyone do this? My eyes filled with tears as I took my turn north. Off in the horizon towards the Pittsburgh airport I could see a plane’s exhaust shining bright orange against the light blue sky. It looked as though it was flying straight up but was probably flying north to south. I noticed another plane with its bright orange exhaust flying across the horizon. Within seconds in front of me high in the sky was a giant orange cross. God showed me that cold morning that unlike the father that left his girl to freeze in the woods; our Heavenly Father is always in front of me thanks to the cross.
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in His love.” John 15:9 NIV
Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank you for the love you showed at the cross. No matter what I face in my life I know you are there to lead all I need to do is look up.
