These Walls
There's a house in the country,
It's as old as old can be,
A loving eye is needed,
Its beauty's hard to see.
There is one room within it,
Though not grand or ornamental,
It holds the heart of the house,
That's what makes it so special.
This room has four walls,
A ceiling and a floor,
If walls could tell a story,
It'd be interesting, I'm sure.
They've heard all the laughter,
They've witnessed many tears,
They've smelled delicious cooking,
Through the many years.
There's a table, wooden and long,
They've watched people sit around,
Some playing games,
Some from out of town.
The flies have rested on these walls,
In fact, the people too,
But it is seldom seen,
There is always much to do.
If these walls could speak,
They'd tell of one thing for sure,
The love that they've seen here,
They've never seen before.
These people love each other,
A love expressed in many ways,
This love is most important,
It conquers the hardest days.
A hug from grandmother,
A wife who's always giving,
An encouraging word from brother,
A dad who works for their living.
A grandfather's new inventions,
A sister praying for her brothers,
Friends with good intentions,
Even cousins who love each other.
If these walls could write a book,
Of many people they would tell,
Always here to visit,
Because they love this place so well.
