Today’s body of Christ is for the most part like a plumber who cannot do a job, because he uses only half the necessary tools.
Generally we don’t make use of the authority God has given. Oh yes, we go to church, the midweek Bible study, a few might even chat the gospel to unbelievers during the week. That is the limit of Christianity as most of us know it.
Jesus had much, much more for the disciples and apostles – and He wants us to emulate them today, for we now have the job. At the end of Mark’s Gospel the last thing Jesus said to those who believe (now it is us) was to go, cast out demons, heal the sick, and preach the gospel. It is for those who believe today.
Jesus said we will speak with new tongues (banned in many of today’s denominations, by the way), pick up serpents and be able to drink anything deadly without harm.
Not many are doing that. It’s mainly because church leaders don’t think they can – so they don’t tell you that you can. Yet Jesus says in the Bible that we can.
We ought to be doing what Jesus said we can do. The world wants to see Jesus in action through us. He knew words would not be enough so He did supernatural signs to prove He was of God, and He showed God to everyone. Many believed because of it, and so they will today when we do the same.
The disciples and apostles ministered supernaturally. They believed Jesus and acted upon the belief. So we have the Book of Acts, which tells what they did.
To do the same we need to abandon tradition, and desire all that the Bible says we can have. That means baptism in water, the baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in the language of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost (Acts 2) was for those who already believed, remember? Today, many say they have the Pentecost experience, but haven’t the courage or desire to even hand out a tract. To have the equipping and not to do what Jesus said can only be put down to unbelief.
Jesus today wants people who believe what He says, and have the guts to step out in faith.
Some say the supernatural events were only for those back then, 2,000 years ago, and will not happen now. Such a belief is a denial of Hebrews 13:8. It is a lie of the devil, for it takes only one demon to be cast out, one person healed today to prove the lie. There have been signs and wonders done in Jesus’ name, even in this 21st century.
When we begin to minister as Jesus did, we take Christianity a step up from the label of “just another religion” which is how the world sees it now.
The Lord wants us as instruments in setting the people free from bondage: demonic oppression, sickness, wrong thinking and an eventual lake of fire. Some churches attempt it, but still they sit and wait for people to come to them. Jesus said go.
How can any believer settle for this caricature of the faith that we have today? It is not the real McCoy. Read again Mark 16:15-18 – and go do it!

I've read three things since I signed on this morning. This makes the third reference to "plumbing" I've read...... hmmm. "We ought to be doing what Jesus said we can do." Amen!! Very stirring article.
Yes Brother, thanks for this powerful message. We can no longer sit on the fence and look pretty and be politically correct. Time is running out, we have the tools, we have the weapons, we have the power. It's all Him and the Word and holding onto His promises. He said we can do greater things in His Name......it's time for ACTION! The question is are we willing to pay the price? I am, I believe you are ....may all who wish to do so, abandon ourselves totally to God and GO FOR IT!
He will look after us and dislodge the enemy from our path. NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO TOUCH US WHEN WE WALK IN THE AUTHORITY OF GOD AND IF THEY DO, HE WILL ENSURE THEIR HANDS COME OFF! Praise be to God.....you just stirred me up Rod. God bless and keep stirring hearts.
