He couldn’t be more perfect -
(There’s a dimple in his chin!)
His lips are like a rosebud
And he’s got his Mama’s grin!
All the promise of the future’s there
Within those big brown eyes,
And my heart is held in rapture
As I listen to his sighs.
What is it about a baby
That enraptures every soul?
And makes you feel unworthy
While this tiny one you hold?
So perfect and so innocent,
His slate is white as snow;
Oh, help me Lord, to guide him right,
Remembering his soul.
I can’t express or understand
These blessings that are mine.
So unworthy, yet, no doubt!
I trace God’s hand divine.
What He has made - and trusted
To us to guide each day
Requires our leaning on Him
As we walk along life’s way.
We will feed and clothe you,
Tiny boy with Daddy’s nose -
We will love and guide you
And cheer you as you grow;
But steady burns the knowledge -
This precious truth we hold -
God has trusted to our care
An everlasting soul!
