When my dad repeated something to me the second time, I knew it was time for some serious listening. On the third time, it was time to start looking for a good hiding place. If the transaction ever reached the fourth time, I was a goner: OUCH, OUCHER, OUCHEST!
Rarely (I've found none), God will repeat something four times in the same chapter. When He does...count on it being the utmost of importance. 'Thoughts' that He wants to 'sink' in:
Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31.
"Let them give thanks to the Lord
for His unfailing love
and His wonderful deeds for men."
FOUR, YES, FOUR TIMES!
Let's see why...
As the sun is center of the revolving earth, so, it seems, SELF is the center of one's existence. Often we hear a statement like, 'he's in his own little world.' Being thankful and giving thanks, however, is one of the most productive of human endeavors. They shift attention away from self and onto others---hopefully onto God Himself. To cultivate the practice of being thankful is an 'outward bound' movement of the human spirit away from self-centeredness. Refreshing, invigorating, delightful---and mentally healthy.
UNFAILING LOVE. Love that does NOT fail. Ever. Inexhaustible. Constant. Dependable. A Remarkable Reservoir. Unfailing love because it focuses His great love resolutely on the target---you and me. His Son, Jesus Christ, appearing on this planet, dying for our sins, indeed is the eminent expression of God's unfailing love.
WONDERFUL DEEDS FOR MEN. If one reads the Old Testament and the New Testament, one can't ignore the continual interactions of God with mankind. Both physical and spiritual interventions. Wow! It would take a big, thick book to write them all down. He did---the Bible. The point: God is actively at work in the lives of the openhearted NOW. Today. All over the world. If our ears and our eyes are wide open, we cannot escape the majesty and splendor of God's up-to-date involvement with the human race. Don't miss it in your life...
