The Defendant -
"I petition you Lord this dim day
Please take this habit away - no delay."
The Crown -
"There are matters more pressing.
Consider... I Am The Potter - you are the clay."
The Defendant -
"As You observe those tears - that spout my fears
No one loves me - as far as I can see!"
-The Crown -
"I forfeited my life as love offered -
Nailed to that tree".
The Defendant -
"Alas! People view me as garbage -
Ready for the heap."
The Crown -
"Take heed! - I didn't create refuse.
I am the 'Good Shepherd,' you are the sheep."
The Defendant -
"But what if I'm not one of the flock?"
The Crown -
"My Spirit called ample times
But you did not take stock."
The Defendant -
"I've done so much harm to my fellow-clan
I'm conceived as an arrogant madman!"
The Crown -
"Then spin the compass within
Span your course as planned
And you will portray the Son's ray."
The Defendant -
"As death's trap door draws near could you
Undo my deeds?"
The Crown -
"Recall the thief on the Cross with me?
A contrite heart was his only need
As I secured his step into eternity."
The Defendant -
"The grim shadow of death stalks me!
Grant me - as you see our tears
And lengthen my ill-spent years?"
The Crown -
"Is not life without end, your fate that nears
Sufficient to console your earthly fears
And fortify those that mourn in tears?"
The Defendant -
"With my last breath, I confess you as Lord and Savior
And in remorse, repent of my wayward behavior."
The Crown -
The judge finds you... "not guilty"
Witnessed by the tree on Calvary
Son ... your new life has just begun!

I enjoyed reading this, it makes you stop and think about what you're really asking of God sometimes. Very nice. Thanks and blessings to you for sharing it!
Arnost--I really enjoy this poem, and I plan to feature it on the Front Page showcase here at FaithWriters for the week of April 16th. Look for it on the home page...and check out the Writing Challenge, if you have the time!
