The color of vehicles having new meaning
In the past seen coming down the street screaming
With ladders and bells polished and gleaming
The children watching then dreaming
The new meaning is that of shed blood
Through the disasters of fire, crashes, earthquakes, or flood
Wading through ruble, water, the soot mixed mud
But there is more to it like the flag stood upright on top of the crud
The red in the flag reminds us of the heat
Where some run in fear while they never retreat
Many were lost, their lives not given in defeat
Where blood is spilt, this nation becomes founded and won’t tolerate a repeat
So what is it like to be in the heat
Ask the families of those who rose to the challenge of this new feat
For none of them were greater than the One who washed others feet
They are only the ones who can stand in the heat.
