Any Vacant Room?

ANY VACANT ROOM?

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:5-6;

It was time for the earth to receive her Lord. The child to be born was not an ordinary child; He was God incarnate, the long-awaited saviour of mankind, the hope of all creation. At that time, Mary, who was heavily pregnant, paid a visit to Bethlehem of Judea for a compulsory head count when the day of her delivery came. Under a very harsh winter cold, the little family sought frantically for a decent place where the baby could be delivered, but there was found no room for them in the inn let alone midwives to attend to her. After a fruitless search for a room, Joseph and Mary had no choice but to turn to a stinking, messy and perhaps, maggot-invested manger as an alternative. What a pitiable way for the earth to receive her saviour? What a disappointing way for the hopeless world to treat him, whom God had sent to rescue it? It is unfortunate that the people had rooms big enough for every body else in the inn, but not for the Son by whom all things were made. It is worrisome that the people paid attention to everything else but not to the one whom God had sent to save their souls from eternal destruction. How sad!

Who else should the earth receive with all excitement and preparation if not the saviour and hope of the world? Who else should the people create room for if not the creator of all things, though in human flesh? Who else should attract the attention of all men if not the Lord and the master of the universe? The people failed to recognize the arrival of their redeemer let alone providing him a descent room. They pushed him aside into a stinking manger and went about their normal life and daily activities. The world would rather meet their kings and emperors who devour and defraud them, with excitement than prepare a throne for the Lord to reign in their lives. The people missed that singular honour and eternal opportunity to make a room for the Lord. They lost out completely because of their insensitivity to the visitation of the Almighty God.

So many of us today have pushed the Lord aside into a ‘stinking manger’. We have a decent inn, but no room is available there for our creator to occupy. Many of us don’t actually intend to thrust Him out of our well-furnished inn, but we have done this in style since all the available rooms in our lives have been occupied by unimportant people and meaningless things. We have time for everyone and everything else, but not for the Saviour. Other things like job, career, business, ambition, family, recreation, money, pleasure and so on, have taken the place of God in our hearts. How sad!

For how long are you going to deny the Lord a room in your hearts? Remember, if you reject or deny him a place in your life now, you will eventually meet him at the end, not as one begging for a room, but as a fiery merciless judge. Your existence is meaningful only when you have given the Lord Jesus Christ the right place in your life. Why don’t you, as a matter of urgency, throw out all those things that have taken God’s place in your hearts. It is time for you to make room for God in your life rather than reserve rooms for things that have no eternal value or relevance. Today can mark the beginning of a new thing in your life. Giving the Lord total control of your life will not only make your life meaningful, you will also have place of eternal rest with Him at the end.
Now with all humility and seriousness, let us pray the Lord earnestly to occupy our hearts and reign as king in us and through us.

Into my heart, into my heart
Come in to my heart, Lord Jesus
Come in today, come in to stay
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Amen.

‘For I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door of his heart, I and my father will come in and make our abode with him eternally’ Revelation 3:20;

Shalom.
