Humor
I find it particularly odd that most people are filled with a magical euphoria when they see the first signs of winter. The same people you find griping and complaining two months later when the cold has found its way into the inmost part of their soul. Even the plants and animals in the north know that winter is something that is best avoided if possible. Some animals leave all together, others simply sleep it off. Plants also seek shelter by letting their limbs die while they clutch to their remaining life left under the frost. More odd still is that these same people will, the very next year, have the same excitement when they see their first flecks of snow. As we lay awake in the night thinking of the days to come most of us think of positive things to come. Without the hope of something good we would find life absolutely unbearable. If we think too positively than we are labeled as something, maybe a dreamer or an escapist. If we think too much of the negative things to come we will be labeled paranoid or worse still. The balance between the two also has its problems. Boredom manifests itself in anyone trying to become too balanced.
Balance is mainly overrated. In order for anything to go forward it must first be thrown out of balance. A child would never take its first steps without first putting itself off balance with one limb, trusting in its other to pick up the shift in weight. So this trust issue is central to balance. Do we have enough faith in something that we can throw ourselves off balance in order to achieve something otherwise unattainable?
So what about winter and our strange relationship with its arrival? Winter will come no matter how we perceive its coming. What about ideas that have not yet been conceived? If they are not yet conceived we can not conceive them with balance of mind or we would be neutral to the idea and therefore nullifying the thought. I suggest that it is with faith that we imagine new ideas, faith that a new idea will come into fruition. Oh, the revolutionary, what faithful this sort must be. Romantic ideas will never come from the balanced well rounded mind. The only thing suitable for those who are on this heightened level of balance, I would suggest, is to be subject to the rest of us, the rest of us who have minds to create change. A soldier is the perfect balanced subject, if you will.
So then, why do we seek balance, to have no faith, no mind, and be subject to whatever power takes hold of us? I suggest that those truly balance never planned it, but were probably born that way. The truly unbalanced make the changes; they have the best qualities and the worst habits. The unbalanced are the ones books are made of, the ones laws are made of, the ones countries are created by, the ones that kill and are killed for what they believe. The unbalanced are the ones who live! The unbalanced move forward and will inherit the earth. Hahahhaahahaha..
