By God’s Amazing Grace, I was blind, but now I see, I still see…
I can still see the tears in her eyes as one hand holds her mother’s and the other waves goodbye.
I can still hear her voice as she says, “Daddy, please come back. Wait and we’ll go with you. I won’t even pack. Mommy and I’ll miss you while you’re gone. Daddy, please come back.
I just turn to her to say, “Daddy’s got to go away. I am sorry I can’t stay. Daddy’s got to go and take his place, but I’ll be back if only by God’s amazing grace.”
She says, “Out there in the world, you’ll miss your little girl. Daddy, please come back.”
But, she doesn’t understand her Daddy is a military man. I must take my place and I know I’ll be back only by God’s amazing grace.
I‘ve put away my dress whites and packed my navy blues. Put away my Sunday shoes. Put on fatigues and laced my combat boots. I am ready to fly so I must forget that tear in her eye. But I will still hear her voice as she says, “Daddy, please come back.”
She says, “Out there in the world, you’ll miss your little girl. Daddy, please come back.”
Plans and missions are in place. My country needs me. There is danger I must face. To serve my nation in this time of need. And to serve my God in this world of greed. The commander speaks, but I still hear her voice, “Daddy, please come back.”
At night, she prays, “Father, please by your Amazing grace, let him come back. Out there in the world, he misses his little girl like you missed your little boy when He came to this world.”
“And He said, "I’ll be back by God’s amazing grace.”"
And I said, “Amazing grace, Father, please let Him come back.”
