Work Heartily
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.” Colossians 3:23,24 NAS

In whatever position we have at work we are to please the Lord and be His representative by displaying a positive attitude. Examining the word heartily, will help us as we strive to have a better attitude at work. The American Heritage Dictionary defines heartily as having zest and enthusiasm. Taking a look at how Jesus lived on earth can help us see how to work with zest and enthusiasm. Jesus was constantly doing something for others and never complained. He worked on earth striving to do His Father’s will. Just as we are to be His ambassadors and show His love to others. If we are pleasing the Lord, then our attitudes should be as close to His as possible. I know it can be difficult to have zest for your work when there are problems. But Christ has promised to help us when we are in trouble. He said, “Come unto me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11: 28,29 NAS). As an Intervention Specialist for first and second grade special needs students I am challenged every day. I find that every time I bring my problems to the Lord, He is there to give me peace. He is just a prayer away and will give His strength to enable you to work heartily just as he helped me. So the next time you open the door to your job, think of Jesus standing there greeting you with a big smile on His face, and ask Him to help you do your job with zest and enthusiasm.

Dear Lord, please help us to be your ambassadors and display our faith with zest and enthusiasm as we serve you in our jobs. In Jesus name, Amen.
