WHITE ONYX
Glenn Cook

Seeing someone in their true form is no easy task
All of them hiding behind colorless mask
Thinking they are protected from evil spells cast

Their lives being sold as perfect and pure
Never asking for healing or a cure
Still hidden is a pleasant persona I’m sure

They load up and play with all their electronics
But seeing into their eyes, I hear voices, micro sonic
Searching for that rare moment finding a WhiteOnyx

So I look past the glimmer and sparkle, deep in the eyes
The armor and protection stripped, no more lies
And found a prima Donna, alluringly soft and shy

Glenn, I read this through a few times to really catch what you were saying. You are so right, it is often very, very hard to get under the mask and see the gem beneath. I liked the way you finished with that line about finding someone who is alluringly soft and shy. Quite often, that's exactly what you do find. Sometimes the most seemingly outgoing people are actually very shy at heart (I can relate to that). I thought this was beautifully written, with some excellent imagery. Well done! Impressive Challenge entry. With love, Deb
