"For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NIV)
You see it in the Pastor up on the stage, engaging the congregation to walk In the path of the Lord Jesus Christ. You see it in the eyes of the nursery care worker who delights in your child's arrival. You see it in the passion of the singers on stage who belt out the favorite hymns of the day. You see it in the cheerful service of someone feeding the less fortunate.
I see it everyday in the eyes and tone of my wife as she pursues God's purpose for her as Director of the local food pantry. I see it every other Sunday as my son stands at the back door of the Sanctuary and greets those coming in to service.
It's all around us, in the body of Christ and in the world around us, from the Levites who clean the church to those in leadership positions purposed to the call of the Lord.
Passion. Fire. Dedication.
Someone doing what the Lord has purposed them to do, gifted them with the skills, talent, and mindset to perform. You can tell when someone is doing what they have been called to do, because they're happiest when they are doing it.
They pursue the goal of the job with strength, power, and self-discipline. They seek out better and improved ways to deliver their talents in the most effective ways. Even when the leadership of their home church do not see the vision that they have, they pursue it with a passion and conviction that only can come from God.
Where are your passions? Are they being used alongside the gifts of God for His purpose? How can you align your passion with the building of the Kingdom?
Mighty Father and Heavenly King,
You built us to be ignited with passion about things we care deeply about and for. When this awesome power of the passion is coupled with the purpose to which You have given each of us, the results are awe-inspiring. You have given us an example of Your passion that all should not perish, but be saved through the love of Your son to come to earth and died for our sins.
Help us to align our passions with our purpose, to be warriors and champions of the cause of Salvation that is the calling of all Christians. Let our passions show to those who are seeking, the way to Your love.
AMEN
