Over 1,000 geysers exist in our world today. They are noteworthy for their upward 'spewing' of steam and hot water, some at regular intervals, others intermittently. The 'spewing' action is eye-catching. Perhaps we can see the picture of the life without Jesus Christ here: The continual spewing forth of sinful thoughts, offensive speaking, evil actions, scheming plans, errant transgressions in the face of God Himself. Oftentimes, the spewing results in murder, rape, assault, other violence. Once, "The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time." Gen 6:5. The Great Wipe-Out followed...
Since then God has put forth a means of 'capping' the spewing: REPENT - "Now after John (the Baptist) was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God, And saying, 'The Time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT ye, and believe the gospel.'" REPENT - to take personal responsibility for and to feel regret toward God, with the intentional 'turning away' from one's errant thoughts and ways. No sense in dragging a sin or sins around behind us for a week or two...
God may even RELENT: King of Ninevah, "Who knows? God may yet RELENT and with compassion turn from His fierce anger so that we will not perish." When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, He had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction He had threatened (through the ex-fishman Jonah). Jonah 3:9,10.
RECENT - Let's keep our 'forgiveness' bookkeeping tabs up to date. RECENT - that which happens at a time just before the present. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9.
REDOLENT - having a fragrance, aroma - pleasant scent.
"But thanks be to God, Who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the FRAGRANCE of the knowledge of Him. For we are to God the AROMA of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the FRAGRANCE of life." 2 Cor 2:14-16a.
RESPLENDENT - full of splendor, majesty.
"We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His MAJESTY. For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, 'This is My Son, Whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.' We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with Him on the sacred mountain." 2 Pet 1:16-18.
