When I was a child, I used to love to read Grimmís Fables. In the story "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", I read of a mirror that always told the truth. Did you know that God's Word is a mirror?
James tells us in James chapter 1 verses 22-25
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
God's word will tell you what you look like. What do you look like? If you are born again, look into the mirror and you will find that . . .
You are the righteousness of God.
You are holy and blameless.
You are loved by God.
You are dead to sin.
You are alive to God.
You are not under condemnation . . . And the list goes on and on!
Remember this mirror doesn't lie, it tells the truth - all the time. It never changes!
The fast-paced life which most of us live will often cause us to forget who we are! Itís like a spiritual amnesia. Some Christians forget who they are and others have never found out.
James says, "For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was . . ." Some forget who they are in Christ!
Peter speaks of the dilemma of forgetting our place in Christ when he writes in 2 Peter 1:5-9
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Peter tells us that those who lack in fruit have forgotten some very important truths! What is the answer for spiritual amnesia?
Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:12-15
Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
How did Peter put them in remembrance? He wrote the truth down. Paul did this as well when he wrote in thirteen different epistles the mystery that Christ had revealed to him in the gospel.
Peter tells us not to forget. James says it's possible to forget if we don't do the Word. How do we do the word? The "word" James is speaking of here is the gospel. How do you do the gospel? It's very simple. Believe!
The Bible is God's revelation of His love. The gospel is the revelation of what Jesus did for you. The Bible is a mirror of what you look like in Christ! If you have accepted Christ, you are altogether a new creation. Jesus has said many awesome and wonderful things about you dear Child of God. Will you believe it?
