Made to be slaves-had to escape
how much more could these wanderers take?
Would they obey, would the be set free
would righteousness be their destiny?
Captured by whites from their land
now working under the white mans hand
it seemed these people were far from free
but was God working behind the scenes?
Continued to wander, tired, complaining
the desert was hot, and their hope was waining
was God really faithful, would He get them through?
Fire and clouds led them, the Jews.
Hardships remained with each passing day
but the african slaves were compelled to pray!
They made up hymns giving God glory
in the midst of oppression, He was part of the story!
God parted the sea, and the Pharoah failed
The God of Israel once again prevailed!
He cared for His people, brought them to freedom
they were His chosen, He would not leave them!
The slaves in America also became free
He gave them wisdom to escape, safely.
He rose up great woman, and also great men
to save their people, so the would win!
Both Jewish and black prevailed with God
hand in hand with Him they trod
though there were hardships, heartache, and pain
God got them through the torrential rains
He upheld them with His Mighty Hand
and today, from these stories helps us understand
that the God of Israel is alive and strong
He was with His people all along.
So if you are wandering in a desert and don't feeL free
turn to the One who saved you and me
He will give you the strength to make it through
He will give you the grace in all you do!
