Made to be slaves-had to escape
how much more could these wanderers take?
Would they obey, would the be set free
would righteousness be their destiny?
Captured by whites from their land
now working under the white mans hand
it seemed these people were far from free
but was God working behind the scenes?
Continued to wander, tired, complaining
the desert was hot, and their hope was waining
was God really faithful, would He get them through?
Fire and clouds led them, the Jews.
Hardships remained with each passing day
but the african slaves were compelled to pray!
They made up hymns giving God glory
in the midst of oppression, He was part of the story!
