This is from my upcoming book, "Secure the Fort (And Remain Under God)." Because of the poetry included in this book, it has been declined by agents and publishers. I will not eliminate the poetry included in this book! Therefore, I may have no choice than to self publish this touching book that several FaithWriters members have graciously submitted to. How can we poets break this never ending cycle?

This poem came after two incidents today...I helped treat a child with a broken ankle at our office..mom didn't speak English well. She asked me to write out everything on paper for her to contact the Red Cross and have them try to locate her husband in Iraq-his second tour. Then a Coast Guard member asked me to pray for his family today. These things keep coming to my attention! I knew I needed to write something for them...
