Let the Healing Begin
Sutures! IV, stat! Soldering gun and super glue, and hurry! Just a band-aid will not do this time!
Yes, this one’s a big one, Lord. It may just be the worst wound I’ve experienced in my life. It’s wide and gaping. I’m losing blood and tears. Hurry, Lord, fix it!
I wonder why surgeons sedate their patients before they begin their work. I can’t imagine how a screaming, hysterical person would distract them from the mending work at hand.
And how can the healing begin without the surgery at hand? A deep cut will not magically fuse itself back together; it must be sewn up again. Transfusions of blood be done to replace the blood lost. The bandages must be removed and replaced often.
The smallest cut can take a long time with the healing process. It may become infected, and potentially leave a great scar if left unattended. Even that small cut needs a squirt of anti-bacterial crème and bandage to heal properly and without complications.
I guess in so many ways You are like that surgeon, Lord. You cannot begin the work of healing as long as we are still moaning and writhing. And the longer that we insist on being awake, insist on holding onto the pain, and fear the recovery process, the longer it will be before the surgery will begin.
We must be sedate, not with drugs or man made concoctions that numb us to the pain, but with the peace that comes from You. The peace that makes us lie still and let You work within us. The peace that allows our frazzled minds to remain on You and the relief we will feel when scab is gone. The peace in knowing that we are in the hands of the Great Physician, the most experienced healer and comforter that we could never get through our HMO. We must find peace and assurance in the knowledge that You are set up in general practice, and yet are a specialist in every area of care.
And we must allow You to do Your job. Allow You to come at us with the big needle because You are going to use it to sew the wound within. Allow You to apply Your ointment that will keep the bacteria and infection away. Allow You to bandage the wound so that nothing will be able to tear at the stitching or hinder the healing from beginning.
I will, Lord. I will let You do the work that must be done to take away the pain of this wound. I will allow You to use Your judgment as to what medicine will be of greater affect. And I will rest in You until the healing process is complete and I am whole again.
I know that the healing will not be a long time coming. I know that I am in very competent hands, Lord. So, what am I waiting for? Let the healing begin!
I Love You, Lord.
