"When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops. He will say to them, "Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and He will give you the victory!" Deuteronomy 20:3-4
It is the ability of a leader to inspire their individual soldiers to look beyond the physical and see the spiritual that often leads a vastly outnumbered or inferiorly equipped force to overcome the odds against superior ones. William Wallace inspired the ragtag Scottish Army with a stirring speech of "Freedom!", to overcome the superiorly equipped and trained English. Captain John H. Miller, in the movie Saving Private Ryan overcame his platoon's desire to turn back from the impossible odds of finding the Private with his statement in the face of yet another solider lost, "If finding this Private earns me the right to go home, then I'll do it."
Christians face what seems overwhelming odds in the fight between good and evil in the world today. After all, this fallen world was given to the Enemy after the failed coup in Heaven. The sanctity of marriage, the accusations of intolerance, distortion of the truth, corruption of religious leadership, and the control of liberal bias throughout our nation seem to many Christians today to be a battle that we are vastly outnumbered and under equipped to fight. We want to throw up our hands like the newly freed captives did with Moses, accusing our leaders of "Leading us out into the dessert to die!"
But, despite the appearance of the physical odds against Christians in the world today, there is no need to fear. Instead of trembling in front of opposition and giving ground to the liberal ideology of "Everyone is going to Heaven," we should remember that victory is on our side. The Lord, Commander in Chief of the Army of God, is with us and will return in the twinkle of an eye to reclaim that which was lost through sin and the Fall.
When you are faced with an impossible situation, do you remember the declaration that God gave you that He will be there? When it seems like all hope is lost, do you turn your eyes to the One who created you? To you place your sights on the unseen promise of eternal salvation or give in to the physical lies of the moment?
Saviour,
You promised that we would never be taken from Your hand again, once we claimed the eternal salvation promise of Your death and resurrection. But the world conspires to confused and distract us from the unseen by overwhelming physical challenges and decay. Help us, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to see into the promise that You will come to fulfill, the return of the King to His throne here on Earth. Enable us through the inspiration scriptures of Your Word to be empowered to fight against the Enemy and his distortion of the truth, that he will be driven into the Pit when his promised defeat has come to pass.
Let us raise up and carry the standard of the Army of God, inspiring the rest of the brothers and sisters of Your family through our actions, thoughts, and deeds.
AMEN
