"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship." Romans 12: 1
Today we live in such a time that this nation has never seen. We have a small window of opportunity to make a difference in what is seemingly a down spiral of this country’s belief system and all she stands for.
I know you have heard the beckoned cries of the evangelist in the arena telling us “Jesus is coming back; get your house in order.” Dear friend, it is true. He IS coming back. That is not what concerns me at this dark hour. What has gripped my heart in this perilous historical moment is “What will Jesus be coming back too?”
We have a nation whose fundamental value system is being stripped daily. We have a country standing by blinded and unwilling to pursue any matter that may cause controversy. In my own town the local school system was conducting three nightly meetings to educate parents/guardians and citizens on what they are teaching our children regarding sex education. It was humiliating to hear that not a single soul cared to appear. I say all this to say, that is why we no longer have prayer in school. That is why you will not see kids carrying their bibles or sharing God’s Word boldly in the public arena. We live in a world of apathy friends. “Let the schools teach what they will, decline biblical morals and spoon feed their political correct agenda’s down our kids throats. In the end what will we have? Nothing that this nation was first founded on.
It’s gone. We’re gone. The dilapidating yet integral fervor of our nation no longer exist. We the people…wait this sounds profoundly familiar…
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
How will we ever be able to live up to the words in our constitution unless we become accountable to our forefathers who had the wisdom to put them in place? By the way, let’s take one phrase out of this amendment and confer on that for just a moment. ‘Secure the Blessings of Liberty” Wow, that statement alone is almost incomprehensible these days. Where is our blessing of liberty today? What are we being set free from? Or perhaps, you are like me, I see that we are being put under more and more bondage daily. Have we been forced to accept the status quo in hopes to not stir up the waves of controversy? Are we going to be like lambs led to the slaughter, or are we going to dare to differ with opinions and regulations that suffocate our natural born right of liberty?
This all sounds good on paper doesn’t it? I can hear some of you now..”Preach it sister…preach it..” But in reality, I am as guilty as the rest of us for participating in nothing and allowing the abolishment of integral milestones that once established this great nation to be covered up with muddied concepts, ignorance and the degrading moral factor of this present age.
What can we do? Something we the people…the people of the church have all but forgotten about. Pray. Why don’t we pray anymore? We have ceased praying because the church has not seen the power of prayer in this nation in decades. The persecuted church in other parts of the world, though they stand alone many times, continue to see a mighty move of God in the midst of there agony. Perhaps we as a nation need a little agony to wake us up too.
Unfortunately, as history often is repeated, that is what is going to happen to the good o’le USA if we don’t start seeking His face. If we conduct our lives with the attitude that “we are the chosen ones, a chosen generation,” then we will need to pay the price of that declaration. It starts on bended knees, not on open platforms. The power is in the prayer closet my friends, not in 10,000 seated auditoriums. Words of the most eloquent and articulated orator can do nothing in comparison to “the effective prayer of a righteous man" We the people need to get back to praying and not so much talking. My mentor used to say, “Only speak when you are spoken through!” How do we let the Holy Sprit speak through us? By listening to what He says. How can we hear what He is saying? By communicating with Him in prayer.
It took many hours of prayer to establish what we now call the Constitution of the United States. No, it is not God breathed as the Holy Scriptures are, but as you read each word, and digest each amendment, you too will begin to understand that these are more than just words of men. It is prayer, that at one time, made this nation the greatest she ever was. It is only by prayer, the forgotten factor, that she will ever return and attain new heights. Friends, let us pray.
