You should hear the music in the land that I was in.
You should have heard the angels sing,
Every note so clear and true
A splendid synchrony of violin
Or harp, or flute or some other thing.
Each plaintive note in perfect harmony
Voices so sweet my ears taken captive
To ravenously desire just one more note
And then one more still.
You should have heard the angels sing.
Throngs and throngs for miles no end
An eternal symphony in harmony spent
Not one too many, not one too scarce
Not one impervious to all the rest.
Perfect unison, perfect sound,
Perfect love to my ears was bound
I stared transfixed, my hearing gone
To all except that heavenly throng,
Afraid to breathe or my heart to pound,
To interrupt that heavenly sound.
You should have heard the angels sing.
