“I was standing in the park wondering why Frisbees got bigger as they get closer – then it hit me!” - Unknown
Sometimes I feel like God keeps throwing Frisbees at me. I mean, how many times do I say, “And then it hit me….”
One Monday afternoon, my son came running into my office with a look of panic on his face. Before I even had a chance to ask him what the problem was, he proceeded to tell me that he lost his journal. His teacher, however, would let him redo the entire journal if he could not find the one that was lost by Friday – but, the thought of having to redo an entire journal was overwhelming.
As most parents do, I asked him if he checked his locker, his room, etc., only to be met with the look that clearly said “Of course, mom”! I suggested that we pray and ask God to help us find the missing journal. As most kids do, he rolled his eyes and said, “Whatever, mom! God does not care about a stupid journal”. I continued to encourage him to let God handle this – assuring him that God was concerned with all the details of our life – not just the “biggies” - but, even things like finding a lost journal was important to Him. He reluctantly agreed to ask God to help us find the journal – and we prayed that God would show us exactly where the journal was before Friday.
Tuesday afternoon rolled around and still no journal. Wednesday came and went and I have to admit, that by the time Thursday morning got here – even I was beginning to worry that I was going to have to try and explain to my son why God chose not to answer our prayer.
I began to think to myself, what on earth and I going to do, Lord, if we don’t find the journal? What do I tell him then? After that big speech about God being interested in all areas of our lives – even the smallest details! I found myself calling out to God for the words to explain to my son why He did not answer the prayer to find the journal – and it hit me! I had quit believing that God would help us find that journal. God still had almost a full day to help us find that journal – and rather than continuing to faithfully ask Him to help us find it – I had begun to doubt His faithfulness! Ouch!
Around noon, my son comes bursting into my office! He began to tell me that when he walked into class that morning, his missing journal (and a workbook he had not even realized he lost) was sitting on his teacher’s desk! Wednesday evening, the cleaning crew at the school was emptying the trash can and felt something heavier than the “paper” that was normally in the trash can. When he looked down into the bottom of the trash can, he found my son’s journal and workbook! Thinking that these books were not intentionally thrown into the trash, he set them on the teacher’s desk with a note that he had found them in the trash.
I am amazed that not only did God answer our prayer to find the missing journal – but, the additional book that we did not even realize was missing- was found at the same time! I will never know if the reason God allowed both of those books to be found at the same time was to show my son that God, is in fact, really interested in even the smallest details of our life – or, was it God throwing yet another Frisbee at me! Then it hit me, God was showing ME how much he cares about the smallest details of my life, too!

I love this story! You reminded me of that very special of God caring about even the tinest details of our lives.
Your intro caught my attention right away and I was drawn in to finish. Well done.
Why the other book? I happen to think that although you knew of His caring for details, had He have answered with just one book there could have been an "I told you so" testimony which, though perhaps warranted, could have caused your son to see YOU too clearly and HIM a mere silhouette of your faith; which is the another detail you may have thought of in your heart, but not in your mind. I get the sense that you want your boy to see Jesus, much more than you want him to see Mom. I rather think His attention to details has even surpassed yours!
