What comes after darkness?
When the cool, calm dusk
Has pulled its smooth shroud of fog
Around the shoulders of the Earth
And night has settled on its haunches
To wait out the still
Empty blackness
Will darkness teach us anything at all?
Will the stale, tasteless
leavings of the day
Satisfy our aching hearts? Will the
Emptiness that comes after the pouring out
Of all we have and are be filled?
Or will there be in us
An echo of the greater void? There are
No answers from the end of day.
There is only waiting when we
Cannot see or know
When hope is all we possess.
But, wait till darkness fertile
woos the light,
And midnight faith begins to sing.
Another moment of creation draws near!
When Earth shakes off the coil of sleep
And all the past slips away
Like a veil
When light is drawn like a bow
Across the strings of a limitless horizon
Vision and desire are revived
The song of life
Fills the air
And all things become possible.
