I have a friend who can take a rusted piece of metal and turn it into a work of art! She and I can look at a pile of junk, and while I see just that, she sees art!
I wonder how many times we have looked at people around us and in our lives and seen junk? Rusted, broken down, worn out junk headed for the landfill! The alcoholic who was left on the side of the road, covered in blood and his own vomit; he’s just a drunk! What about the addict, who lives for the next fix and has chosen drugs over her child? What about the 15-year-old who sells her body?
We’ve all come face to face with at least one person who appears to have nothing to live for. We’ve all been guilty of writing someone off because all we could see was a rusted life. As I toss the junk aside someone comes along and sees a masterpiece. Carefully the pieces are collected and before you know it art has been created!
God is quite the artist! He looks into, what we’ve considered junk, and gathers pieces together until a masterpiece is formed! When we give up, He steps in and creates a work of art out of what we considered worthless! He doesn’t give up, regardless how used and broken it appears! He doesn’t toss us to the side, but rather works with compassion and gentleness to put the pieces back together!
While we see a prostitute, God sees a work of art!
If we are honest, we will remember the day when we were found and put back together! For me it wasn’t a pretty sight, and many had given up, but God saw something and put the pieces back together!
When we look at those around us, we see only in part! God knows from the beginning to the end! Let’s be careful what we call junk ~ we may be looking at a masterpiece!
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
God Almighty! Thank You for not giving up and tossing us aside! Thank You for picking up the pieces of our lives and creating a masterpiece! While others gave up on us, You remained faithful because You understood behind the rusted façades were something more! Lord, open our eyes to those around us! Help us to see the alcoholic, drug addict and prostitute as you see them! Help us to reach out with Your love and compassion! In Your Name we pray, AMEN!
