Mother’s Day is all about memories
I have some of the best
Home made ginger bread with whipped cream
Sunday’s Desert
Shoots and Ladders and Dominos
Evenings around the kitchen table
Hair bows and dotted Swiss dresses
Patten Leather Shoes and my first pair of heels - Pumps
Hats and white gloves
Proper ladies wore one glove and carried the other
Ironing hankies, and lapping spoons
Mostly of Molasses
The soda fountain at Woolworth’s and hot fudge Sundays
On Saturdays
Filenes Basement and Grant’s toy department
My first Barbie Doll
Mummy these are just a few of my earliest memories
It would take a book to tell them of them all
Gee, I haven’t called you Mummy in years
I suppose somewhere along life’s road I out grew it
I think of Poodle Skirts, hoop and crinoline slips
Paid for by the sacrifices made
From a very loving Mummy
Sacrifices such as
Cardboard insoles and walking to work, No beauty shops, or vacations
Sacrifices of Love
But most of all this Mother’s Day I want you to know that
My most cherished memories
are the ones we are making now
I love you
Not because of all the things you’ve done and continue to do
But because you did them and do them with Love
Your loving daughter
