Every night he filled her dreams
While her heart was breaking
Dark as night the house it seems
Her lonesome body aching
“Why, oh God, did he must go
To serve so far away
Don’t you know I need him so
To make it through each day”
The love she had for him was deep
And distance could not break it
Each night she cried herself to sleep
Tears soaking her old blanket
At 9-11 he raised his hand
To serve and to protect
The love he had for our great land
Did gain him much respect
But news of war created fears
That he might not come back
Reports of death brought her to tears
Our soldiers under attack
So she got down on her knees
“Lord, please bring him home”
Suddenly she felt a breeze
And knew she wasn’t alone
A tall dark figure at the door
Bright sparkles in his eyes
Alone she will be no more
And no more long good-byes
