A dreamy cold Judean night,
God gave all souls on earth,
By hasting on what prophets seen,
The chance for second birth.
The morning star Emmanuel,
Would choose a virgins womb,
Henceforth He would live then die,
But not one day to soon.
A reign began to never cease,
Though some thought late in time,
The serpents head would soon be crushed,
By this child in His prime.
Though veiled in flesh as mortal man,
He lay his glory by,
Behold incarnate deity,
Wrapped in this babies cry.
As God unfurled His wings of love,
In shadows of that star,
The shepherds watched in nervous dread,
This happening from afar.
The dawn of our redeeming grace,
Came as the God-head seen,
Righting Adam’s grave mistake,
Renewing hearts to clean.
A love that calls to every heart,
Beneath the star now dim,
Glad tidings and good-will t’ward men,
Has rose to conquer sin.
