Scriptural Mathematics

Let’s do some Maths :

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. (Ps.91:7)

And I beheld, and heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands. (Rev.5:11)

Although I was not all that good at it, I enjoyed maths at school. Later on I came to realize just how important this science is in the whole scheme of things. Numbers play such an important role in our lives, and very often we’re not even aware of it.

Birthdays, dates, time, money, driving, cooking, planning, composing, writing etc. Virtually every aspect of daily life has a relationship with numbers and we never even think about it.

In this article I want to do some simple maths with numbers in the Bible. At first it might look frightening, but actually the outcome is very encouraging. Numbers never lie. 1 + 1 = 2. From beginning of time that has always been, and for all eternity it will always be true. If we woke up tomorrow, and found that 1 + 1 = 2 point 0000001, then the whole of creation would effectively collapse. Science has proved that the whole universe is based on the absolute unchangeableness of the mathematical laws, which the Creator instituted. It is impossible for 1 + 1 to be anything else but 2.

In the scripture above the apostle John gives us an approximate number of angels around the throne of Elohim (God). He says there were ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands. So, let’s make a sum of that;

10,000 X 10,000 X 1000 X 1000 = 10,000,0000,000,000, or 10 to the power of 13.

That is actually a conservative estimate, because for the “thousands of thousands” I have only taken one thousand times one thousand.
So conservatively there are a hundred thousand billion angels worshiping the Father around His throne.

The Bible often refers to our Father YaHWeH as the LORD of hosts. These are the hosts of heaven, the myriads of heavenly beings worshiping Him. The number John saw are not all the angels there are. Those are just the ones around His throne. There must be billions more throughout the universe doing His bidding. But for the purpose of keeping this article simple I am going to take the total number of angels as being 10 to the power of 13.

Now lets get to the frightening bit. Actually it’s not frightening at all, unless you’re on the wrong side. If you’re on Elohim’s side, don’t worry – that’s the right side.

The Bible says that a third of the angels rebelled with the arch-angel Lucifer (Satan), and were cast out of heaven to the earth. That means half of the total number of angels in heaven, are the fallen angels (spirit beings) who now inhabit the atmosphere around our world. Let’s make the sum;

10 to the power of 13 divided by 2 in order to get the number of fallen angels. 10,0000,000,000,000 / 2 = 5,0000,000,000,000 or 5 to the power of 13. That comes to fifty thousand billion evil angels influencing our world. Are you surprised then that the world is in the state it is?

To make our sums simple I am going to take the human population of the world as it was about three decades ago. At that stage our population was about five thousand million, or five billion. Now let's make a sum to find out how many fallen angels there are for every human being.

Fifty thousand billion divided by five billion.
50,000,000,000,000 / 5000,000,000 = 10,000

Do you see why I say it’s frightening if you’re on the wrong side? There is a minimum of ten thousand fallen angels for every single human being on this earth. No wonder there is so much evil around. No wonder Yahshua (Jesus) called the devil, Beelzebub - the lord of the flies.

I grew up on a dairy farm in Zimbabwe. After it had rained, and the sun came out, and humidity was high, the mud and dung mixture in the cattle kraal was black with flies. If we could see into the spirit realm, I believe we would see this world covered by fallen angels as flies on a dung heap.

But what’s the encouragement? Just this, there are twice as many angels at our disposal, angels who are, according to the Word, the servants of the children of Elohim. That means 20,000 angels for every human being! "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" (Heb.1:14)

Remember the story of Elisha the prophet of YaHWeH, when the Syrian army surrounded the city? Elisha’s servant got up early in the morning and was shocked to see this vast army besieging the city. Alas, my master! How shall we do? Just look at the faith of the prophet; And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, YaHWeH, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And YaHWeH opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. (2 Kings 6:15-17)

They’re there for certain. The Word tells us so. We need never be afraid. The hosts of heaven are around us, ready to give us aid. They outnumber the forces of evil two to one. The problem is that we’re often spiritually blind and do not see (believe) it.

No believer need ever live in fear. In fact fear is sin. Fear is literally faith in the power of the devil. If a believer fears it is a slap in Father’s face. Our Father has given us three reasons to live confidently, fearlessly successfully and victoriously in this life.

1. The Almighty, All powerful El Shaddai dwells in the believer through the Holy Spirit. We have been given this fantastic promise; Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
2. The angels of Elohim are twice as many as the forces of the enemy, as we’ve seen. What is more, the enemy forces have already been defeated by our Savior.

3. We are not alone. The Church is an army of believers. According to Joshua 23:10 One man of you shall chase a thousand: for YaHWeH your Elohim, He it is that fights for you, as He has promised you. If we look at that scripture on its own, two believers shall then chase 2000, and three 3000. But in this case, because of another scripture, the increase is exponential. How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock (Yahshua) had sold them, and YAHWEH had shut them up. (Deut.32:30) Let’s look at exponential increase when the Saviour is involved, and believers are in unity;

1 believer chases a 1000
2 believers chase 10,000
3 believers chase 100,000
4 believers chase 1000,000
5 believers chase 10,000,000
6 believers chase 100,000,000
7 believers chase 1 billion

It’s amazing what unity of faith will accomplish. Do you think Yahshua was serious when He prayed; "That they (believers) may be one; as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us: that the world may believe that You have sent Me.
I in them, and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one: and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them, as you have loved Me." (John 17:21 & 23)

The power of mathematical one, is the power of unity. Our God is One, Hear, O Israel: YaHWeH our God (Elohim – plural) is One YaHWeH. (Deut.6:4) He is a Trinity – a Unity of Three. We are in Him, and He is in us. HalleluYah!
