Do we all strive to be like Jesus? We all fall short of His character, but do we desire to be like Him? As much as Jesus instructed us to follow His footsteps (1 Pet 2:21), we must have a desire to be like Him. When we are born again, the Spirit of God live inside of us and the character of Jesus is within us. However, because of our carnal nature, we all fall short of His glory.
If our higher goal is to be like Jesus daily and walk the way He walked while He was on earth, then what is the secret to be like Him? Yielding to Him would be the best way for us to overcome our carnal behavior. How then do we yield to Him? By abiding. What do I mean by that? If we have the Spirit of God, we will know how to follow His instructions as He guides and directs us everyday.
Committing our day early in the morning to Him just before we set out to work would be a good way of abiding in Him. We come before His presence and commit the day’s tasks to Him and obediently submit our plans for His guidance. You will be surprised that as you do that daily, your day will be blissful and pleasant. As you continuingly submit yourself to Him, you are yielding to His plan for your daily life.
If we are caught in our daily living with anger, lack of self-control or any characteristic flaws, we can submit these problems to Jesus and ask Him to remove them from us. It is only by submitting our weaknesses to Him that we are allowing Him to help us. The next time you are caught with anger and lost your temper, say a prayer to Jesus and asks Him to remove anger from you. As you pray diligently and cry out to Him about your character, know that Jesus will change and transform you.
We want to walk in His likeness and any characteristics contrary to His character, we want to submit them to Jesus. It all boils down to our attitude. If we desire to be like Jesus, we will examine our attitudes and responses. It is by constantly examining ourselves that we can become more and more like Jesus.
Prayer is vitally important, as it is only through this channel that God can change us. If we constantly pound on heaven’s door, know that the Holy Spirit will direct and guide us in every step of our way. God will prune us to be more and more like Jesus if our heart-cry is to be transformed into His image. To be like Jesus is to yield to Him like He did to the Father while He was on earth.
The gospel tells us that Jesus often drew to the mountain top to pray. After His ministry, He would yield Himself to the Father and refreshed Himself. If we practice what Jesus did, we will likewise be refreshed. As we confess our sins and failures to Him, we will find that our carnal nature will diminish and our attitude and behavior will be more Christ-like.
Examine yourself daily and see if there are any ways in you that is contrary to His Word. Claim scripture verses for your situation and be yielded to Him intimately so that you can become more and more like Jesus.
May God help us in our weaknesses and give us the courage to change and the strength to overcome all our failures and shortcomings.

Holy Spirit of Truth hath
spoken here! Praise the LORD!
I loved the phrase "constantly
pound on heavens door"! May
we all seek Him and His
righteousness first, and watch
Him open every window of
heaven, and pour out the
"latter rain". LORD bless you!
