Four friends talk at the coffee hour at church. The skit is intended as a lead-in to a sermon or skit written by you! This is just a tickler to get others thinking. The full presentation of the message comes in your sermon or devotion.

Leon: Well, how’s life going for all of you? Are you starting to get into the holiday spirit? Thanksgiving is around the corner you know.

Julie: I don’t get it. It's the time of the year that we should be most happy and thankful, but it seems that this is the very time things get tense around our house.

Vaughn: In other words you and your husband had a big fight, right?

Julie: Who told you about that?

Vaughn: Nobody had to tell me. This is fight season, didn’t you know?

Estelle: Money problems, huh?

Julie: Who told you, that?

Leon: Nobody had to tell us, Julie. We’re all married. Anything specific?

Julie: Not really. The credit card statement came and my husband blew up and accused me of over spending. I said, “Wait a minute, Buster. I’m not over spending, you’re just under depositing!”

Leon: It may sound strange, but my wife and I don’t fight much about money anymore.

Vaughn: I suppose you’re pretty well positioned by now.

Leon: It’s not that, it’s just that we have seen God get us through so many hard times that we have no qualms about trusting His provision for us. We have tried to get ahead by limiting our giving at church, and we’ve tried to give way more than we thought we could afford and God has been faithful. We never got ahead when we “under” gave and we never fell behind when we “over” gave.

Julie: That’s interesting. You mean you were able to give generously towards God’s kingdom, and your financial situation was unaffected?

Leon: I didn’t say it was unaffected, I said we didn’t see a change in our bottom line. What changed was our lack of worry about the money situation.

Estelle: And so, no fights. I get it. When you trust in God for your families’ financial future you can give freely, still have plenty, be truly thankful, and not let the problem of money dominate your life.

Julie: I think we need to pray about this at our house. To be able to give generously and have no more fights about money? That would be something to be really thankful for.
