I stare up into the darkened night sky
Then so suddenly overwhelmed am I
The sparkling twinkle of each star
Reminds me of just how far
My Heavenly Father is willing to go
To simply allow me to always know
That his love is ever there for me
Proven by his only son upon the tree
That cross is now a wondrous symbol
And the accompanying message so very simple
But for the grace of God
Oh my soul, but for the grace of God
The world around me is full of danger
And people filled with rage and anger
Death and destruction are evident everywhere
Even in these dreadful times, my Father is ever there
To provide his protection and show me the way
He is ever present throughout each day
For if the Lord God walks with me
Then triumphant shall no evil be
For my soul is protected, safe in his loving arms
Resting peacefully from all of life’s alarms
But for the grace of God
Oh my soul, but for the grace of God
Oh the times I have wondered at many a marvelous thing
Spectacular is his existence, the most Holy King
I take a look around me, to my sides and up above
Surrounded am I by evidence of his abounding love
The universe to me is larger than I can imagine
Just think of it, in his hands he did fashion
All that surrounds and can be seen with the eye
Even that which can not be seen, I would never deny
His attention is ever upon us throughout each blessed day
He knows everyone of us, amazing I must say
But for the Grace of God
Oh my soul, but for the wondrous grace of God
