Frozen fingerprints upon the floor
Misplaced thoughts strung for show across the living room
Your famous last words nailed to the wall
My pride covering the black stains in the carpet
Fear is hunting down my heart
Thoughts are making a new home movie with your voice exploding through my speakers
And my uselessness blinding my hand from the volume
Smile on the outside to control the cries below
Trust in tomorrow with odds at 100 to 1
I picked out this hat just for you,
I hid all of my past bodies just for you
Take a look at me today
What do you see?
Welcome to this heart,
Forgive me for the mess, I'm still working on that
I'm chained here with this mop
I've worked on the same spot for years it seems with no success
There is so much left to clean and I'm running on empty with new spots rising from the grave daily
"These relics of remembrance are just like shipwrecks, only they are gone faster than the smell after the rain."
You were my relic,
And I your despondence shipwreck
I'm eating glass
I'm drinking sulfur
I'll do anything to take the focus off those cobwebs
I'll do nothing to heal

Jeremiah would understand, Paul would understand, the man at the pool of Bethesda would understand.....what I didn't like about this work is that I understand. (I'm not ranking myself with them as prophets/apostles/disciples, they were just MEN), not in these words, but I'm sure they would know just what it is you are saying.
