A Dry Little Herb

I read in a book one day about preserving herbs by hand, to pick them at their peak of freshness, tie them together by their stems with bands.

Then you hung them up to dry, in a cool dark place, where they stayed for such a long time it seemed till they could come to the kitchen to take their place.

I thought that at the end of this process they were just a shadow of what they used to be, and though they gave food each their own distinct taste,
It somehow was kind of sad to see.

It made me think of what Jesus does when He enters our hearts to stay, the process is exactly the reverse, the transformation goes the other way.

We start our as a shadow of what we could be if we had Him, a dried and brittle thing to flavor life, all the beauty faded and dim.

When I accepted Him in my life, the colorless dry dust was brushes away, and new life coursed through my veins, His beauty was mine, it came to stay.

Now instead of a dry little herb, I thrive and grow in His care, and colors are mine as I bloom in His sight, a flower Jesus wanted to share.

So He looked and found the perfect one, who would make my joy complete, and brought us together to fall in love, and learn together at His feet.

How I thank God each morning for giving me this, for knowing just what to do, for blessing me so, for making me so rich, for giving me it all in you!
