Ask, Seek, Knock

7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matt 7:7-8 (NIV

Like many of you and other Christians I have read this many times, but what does it really mean? It seems obvious at first, but I would venture to say as with most scripture that this passage has far more meaning and importance than we realize.

Let’s look at it word by word.

“Ask” Ask what? “It” What is it?

According to Dictionary.com, the word it means the following:

Ask!

“Used to represent an inanimate thing understood, previously mentioned, about to be mentioned, or present in the immediate context; a person or animal understood; represent a concept or abstract idea, action or activity, etc...”

Confused? Well, basically IT can mean anything, okay? Okay.

So, it can be anything you need or want to ask God for or about.

Seek!

“To go in search or quest, to try to find or discover by searching or questioning, to try to obtain, to try or attempt, to go to, to ask for, to search or explore.” (Dictionary.com)

Have you ever really wanted to know the answer to something and went all out to find it? This is what Jesus is saying. Go all out and dig until the answer is uncovered. We are to see the Word of God as a buried treasure that needs unearthed or revealed.

Knock!

“To strike a sounding blow with the fist, knuckles, or anything hard, as in seeking admittance, calling attention, or giving a signal.” (Dictionary.com)

In other words, God wants us to verbalize or make some noise to gain His attention for our petition. Doesn’t He already know what we want and need? Yes, but Jesus said to as, seek and knock.

7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

If we ask God for anything He will give it to us right? We’ll, do you give your children everything they ask for? Of course not; you give them what will benefit them and some things they want as long as it is good for them. God does the same for us; He gives us what is good for us and sometimes like any good parent He says no. Does it hurt? Yes, it does, but it is what we need to benefit us.

If we seek, will we find? Yes, we will, but do we really seek or do we flippantly ask God not really expecting to receive? I hear Christians say, “I can’t understand the Bible, so I just don’t read it anymore.” What? It’s the word of God. It’s His wisdom and compassion and passion for us and to us. It’s every mystery revealed. It’s His strength and His glory and His love and His power and His direction, yet we read it less than the morning paper. It’s no wonder the Christian church is dying out and Islam is taking over.

It’s in reading and searching and finding the truths and treasures within the leather bindings of the Bible that we really know who we are and what we are and what promises He has made to us and offers us. Shame on us for neglecting His word; it is life to us and we choose death!
Ever wonder why you live a defeated life? Ever wonder why you have none of the powers Jesus said that those that believed in Him would have?
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Mark 16:17-18 (KJV)
Does that describe you or the church you serve in?

(LONG SILENT PAUSE)............................................................................................

What’s this door Jesus is talking about?
9 I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (will live). He will come in and he will go out [freely], and will find pasture.
John 10:9 (AMP)

The scriptures tell us plainly that Jesus is the only way to God and the only way to heaven. He is the door that must be opened to us and the only door we must go through.

Vs 8 tells us that all who ask, seek and knock shall have find and the door will be opened to them. That includes everyone from every race, nation and tongue.

14 And they came up and said to Him, Teacher, we know that You are sincere and what You profess to be, that You cannot lie, and that You have no personal bias for anyone; for You are not influenced by partiality and have no regard for anyone’s external condition or position, but in [and on the basis of] truth You teach the way of God
Mark 12:14 (AMP)

With all this in mind; no matter who or where or what you are go to God with boldness and assuredness and be specific in what you want from Him. Devour the word of God and really, truly dig for its deep meaning and truths. Only then will you find the power God has promised you; the power to live and love and be the Godly person He made you for.

Gold Bless.
