A Mother's Prayer

A Mother’s Prayer

Oh Sovereign Lord and Father, You have given me two lives,
To mold and shape, train in Your ways—Oh Lord, please make me wise!

These precious little children You have but loaned to me.
Oh, please help me be the mother I so deeply long to be!

With every whine and every fuss, the blank stares upon each face,
Help me to my children be an instrument of Grace.

When the dishes pile up in the sink and someone wants to play,
Help me to remember how quickly time passes away.

These children are a gift from You and belong to You alone.
Let Your Word be alive and active in our hearts and in our home.

Use me to teach these children Your wonders and Your worth,
Make our home a little piece of heaven on the earth.

Like arrows in my hand, help me aim them straight and sure.
Grant them wisdom, grant them love; grant them faith that will endure!

Give them eyes of faith to see what to many is unseen;
Grant to them salvation, make them children of the King!

Lord, though it won’t be easy, make them soldiers of the Cross.
Give them grace to withstand the fires You send to remove the dross.

Give them hearts that love You, make it their joy to obey;
Give them discernment; give them grace to walk the narrow way.

Grow these little saplings into trees that bear much fruit,
That they might bring You glory; make holiness their life’s pursuit.

And Lord, when that Day comes and You return to claim Your own,
I pray all of our descendants will be gathered safely Home.

Lord, I pray that You would be the hand, and I the glove;
That through me You will bless our home with the sweetness of Your love.

Father, these things I ask in the power of Christ’s Name,
And with each one I seek only the glory of the same.
Amen
