At this time of year, I would like to share this poem with you about Abbeville, South Carolina, and the Christmas season...May this poem that was inspired by "Boogie" Allen Gowan with WZLA bless you richly throughout this very special time of year...
Abbeville Christmas
A warm cup of cheer --
A smile tender and true --
A hand-shake
That says welcome
To everyone
Who passes through --
An open door
With greeting
Spoken with a smile --
Tea time and candy canes --
And respite
For every man woman
And child --
The Belmont Inn
With history and grace
Provide to the traveler
Softness and ease
In its inner space --
Lights that sparkle
Brilliantly in the night
Beneath the southern blue
Bring to every soul
The promise of tomorrow
And anticipation
Of something new --
Streets of brick
Share the story of the past
As memories
Are created in your soul
Founded in your young years
Until your years of being old --
Holly berries
And
Christmas trees --
Cups of apple cider
And
Wreaths
Of ever-green --
Walks on winter nights
And the spark
That stirs the soul
With glistening
Christmas lights
Revealed as streams of gold --
The Opera House
With Christmas flavor
Create a Christmas delight
As welcome as a warm
Cup of eggnog
On a cold winter night --
Churches share
In worship and praise
Of Christ our King
As to every visitor
Abbeville does bring
The gift of kindness
And hospitality
To the traveler
And to the family
Of community…
If you should
Come to Abbeville
As a guest
You will find
That in every way
That at Christmas time
You have just been
Blessed...
