My Life's Afghan

I remember long ago making a little afghan, not in the usual rows, for in this one, they didn't go back and forth, diagonally across they would go.

It started off with just one stitch, to that I added two, and the next I added one to each end til half the afghan was through.

Then the process reversed itself, instead of adding to each row, I started taking one off each end, making it smaller as I would go.

From many stitches down again til again I had reached just one, and though I'd worked diagonally, I had a perfect square when I was done.

It made me think of how God works inside my heart He made new, that bit by bit He gave me new knowledge, and enough wisdom to know what to do.

Each day He added just a little more, building up the truths that I'd know, and at the same time taking away, the troubling things that had to go.

Along the way, the stitches were doubled, a thread added that was brand new, one that made the pattern just perfect, the thread God added was you.

Now the pattern is stitched with such grace, the beauty of love so true, the softness of joy, the colors of happiness, all make my life's afghan ever new.

I thank God each day for all of His gifts and the new eyes that see life with a different view, but most of all, I thank Him for giving me the wonder of loving you.

i don't know what the final pattern will be how my life's afghan will look when it's done, but the greatest joy is to live out each stitch, knowing you and I are twined into one.

Each stitch we make is done with joy, each day is a brand new start, and whatever the day's pattern turns out to be, I know love will overflow my heart.

How I want each morning to find, a thousand ways brand new to weave into the fabric of our day, a thousand new stitches saying "I love you!
