IT’S NOT YOURS, IT’S HIS!
“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” Psalm 24:1
Whatcha doin’ with His stuff? The Word says everything and everybody belongs to God. This means that everything you have, including your life, belongs to God and you are just a steward over it. A steward is responsible for managing things that belong to someone else. A steward is concerned with using and managing that which belongs to the owner, in such a way that the owner would be pleased. It’s not yours; it’s His!
The scriptures tell us what we are supposed to do with all that the Lord provides. We know the Word tells us, “For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (I Co. 6:20) Your body is God’s. Whatcha doin’ with God’s body? Are you glorifying Him, or are you putting tobacco and alcohol in it? Are you gossiping with it; fornicating and committing adultery with it; are you cursing and watching pornography; are you taking His body to the bar and casino; are you putting too much food in it; are you making it sick by laying around lazy and not exercising? It’s not yours; it’s His!
The Lord says, ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine..’(Hag 2:8) Jesus says,’Give to him that asketh of thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not away.’
(Matt. 5:22) The money and material blessings you have; they’re not yours, they’re God’s, and He says share with those who need; give to those who ask and don’t turn away those who ask to borrow. It’s not yours, it’s His!
You say, well I worked for it, and it is mine! Wrong answer! How do we work? We use the talents and gifts that God gave us. “What makes you better than anyone else? What do you have that God has not given you? And if all you have is from God, why boast as though you have accomplished something on your own?” ( I Co 4:7 NIV) Your job; your skills; your talents; they came from, and belong to God! So anything you gain from using them, guess what? It’s not yours; it’s His!
Your family and friends! They are not yours; they are His. And guess what? That’s right, you are even stewards over your relationships. You know the scriptures…” ‘Husbands love your wives…’ ‘Wives submit to your husbands..’ ‘Children honor your parents..’
Parents, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go.’ Fathers, ‘Bring the children up in the admonition of the Lord.’ Everyone, ‘Love your enemies…bless those who curse you.’
Everyone, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself.’ You cannot do what you want, because every soul belongs to God, and Jesus said, “..if you’ve done it until to the least of these, you have done it unto Me.” So our relationships are not our own to do as we wish. We can’t decide to abuse others; to neglect others; to ignore others; to hate others. People belong to God. They’re not yours; They’re His.
“And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night.” Our days and nights belong to God. Our time belongs to God! What do you spend His time doing? Is it for Kingdom building? Is it used for His purposes and His glory?
God is trusting you with stewardship over the life and the resources He has provided for you. What are you doing with it? You may say, ‘What about me, and my needs and desires.” Well, if you put God first, then He will take care of you, (if you are a good steward over His stuff!) If you honor your parents then the Word says it will be well with you; if you give, then it will be given unto you good measure pressed down shaken together and running over; if you use your talents for His purposes, he will increase your talents; if you love your wife, your prayers will be answered (I Peter 3:7) If you submit to your husband, you will be a good influence and he will be won over by your godly behavior.
We could go on and on, but the bottom line is, nothing is yours and everything is His.
Just as you aim to please your boss at work, and receive wages and promotion for your faithfulness; you should desire even more to be good stewards over all that God has given to you. (And His rewards are greater than any reward from men).
Don’t use His stuff to oppose Him; Use His stuff to glorify Him!
If you remember, It’s not yours, it’s His…
Then you will hear Him say, “WELL DONE, THY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT.”
