A Walk in The Garden

The beginning of everything; mankind, animals, plant life, fruits and vegetables, good and evil all began in a garden. Genesis chapter two verse eight tells how God planted a garden eastward in Eden and put the man there that He had formed. He also placed the tree of life and of the knowledge of good and evil. A river flowed out of Eden and separated into four different rivers to water the earth. It goes on to say that God walked in the garden and had a close relationship with Adam and Eve. The following poem is about that garden before it was spoiled by the first sin.

Earth and Heaven
All complete
Only God could accomplish
Such a feat

On day seven
God finished His toil
And He rested from making
The water and soil

He called it holy
And that day He blessed
Not for work
A day of rest

This is the story
Of heaven and earth
How god spoke it all
And gave it birth

No green had sprouted
No tree yet found
For God had not yet
Commanded the ground

There was no rain
No man to till
No one to set
Above the hill

Then went up
A watery spray
That covered the hills
And wet the clay

From the dust
Arose the man
Life was given
By Godís own hand

Yahweh breathed life
And designed mans roll
Into his nostrils
A living soul

A Garden he planted
In Eden to east
And placed man there
To rule the beast

Of all the garden
From every tree
Food for you
A gift from Me

But of good and evil
You shall not eat
For on that day
Death youíll meet

It is not well
Alone man to be
Iíll make a helper
Her name is she

From out the ground
All creatures He made
Man named them all
With him they stayed

He named them all
Each name took
And they were written
Within the Book

But for man
No helper was found
So God let him sleep
Upon the ground

From manís rib
A woman was birth
And she became
The mother of earth

Flesh of my flesh
Bone of my bone
Now Iíll never
Strive alone

Because of this day
His parents heíll leave
And unto his wife
Forever will cleave

They both were naked
Yet had no shame
They did not know
Evilís first name

Since the moment when man learned evils first name he has had a hole in his heart. A hole he has tried to fill with everything imaginable; a hole that cannot be filled except with that close walk with God in the cool of the garden.
