A touching poem, beautifully and gently constructed.
Like the touch of a nurse to a dying Marine. No promises. Just pure admiration for a job well done.
ALL servicemen should feel what I feel when I read this piece, just ONCE before they go. It would make the crossing easier.

Amen - it's good to read something respectful and honoring of our troops - while still looking forward to the day when they're no longer needed.
Thank you for sharing this - a message of, above all else, hope.
God bless,
Kevin
Beautiful! It gave me goosebumps. I can hear this as a narration, with "America the Beautiful" in the background with strings and brass. Or sung by a country crooner, perhaps. At any rate, it's perfect, and what I needed to read today.
Yup. We ex-military have been there. And now a piece of our hearts are with the current ranks of young men and women standing between us and our enemies. Thank God for them! And thank God for your poem. Get it published somewhere!

Beautiful writing, Marilyn. I agree with all the above comments, especially the one urging you to get it published somewhere! Thanks for putting your heart into words, like this.
