Bible Studies
After giving priority to the Father and is desire and His kingdom we turn our attention to our personal and interpersonal needs.
Give us our daily bread is probably the part of the Lord’s prayer that is mostly remembered especially children. But I believe we are as guilty as children who are accustomed to having a wish list that they vist on parents time and time again.
We are all champions at asking for personal needs. God has promised to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. It is written that the Lord is our Shepherd and we shall not want. Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you. Silver and gold belong to Him.
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (Matt7:7-11)
Asking for our daily bread does not in anyway mean being idle and wait fro manner from heaven. We are told that ‘he who does not work should not eat’. ‘whatsoever he does shall prosper.’ We have to do something God can bless. Whilst God wants us to work, He wants us to see Him and not our jobs as our source.
Give us our DAILY bread. This implies that we must not worry about tomorrow but focus on today’s bread; enjoying where we are on the way to where we’re going.
Again ‘Give Us ‘ encourages us to think of our Christian brothers and sisters- rather than thinking of ourselves alone. Furthermore we need to approach God daily for fresh mercies and benevolence.
31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
(Matt6:33)
