I came to You alone,
The first of all my kin.
No one else understood
You’d changed me from within.
I strove to enlighten them.
I sought to make them see
That I was a brand new creature
Because Your spirit lived in me.
But they only knew the me
That they had always known.
They mourned for the one I hated.
They yearned for a me long gone.
Never knowing what it was like
To be that other me.
Never discerning my secret laments,
Never realizing my private misery.
I came to You alone.
But oh how things have turned
You told me all that I forsake
For You, You would return.
You've added many to me,
Even saving some of my kin.
Instead of them bringing me out,
You've helped me to love them in.
